Why real 3 Dimensional Tomography (3DT) is important?
Drawings or graphs of the standard crosshole logging equipment, can only display 2D data.
In order to be able to view 3D data optimally an animated display solution that supports interactive 3D rotation of the 3D object (pile) is needed. Detected flaws can be viewed from different angles and perspectives thus providing essential information for the decision makers.
Piletest 3DT solution for CHUM crosshole ultrasonic monitor software, offers unique interactive 3D display for CSL system test results.
When do you need to run 3DT?
1 – 3DT provides a more tangible view of the detected flaw in the pile, that can be readily presented to the customer.
2 – When the standard 1D presentation (in either Waterfall, FAT or Relative Energy) or even Piletest unique 2DT presentation do not provide enough information to assess a marginal anomaly in the pile.
Note – 3DT method has inherent limitations, resulting from many factors, which you can read about in this paper about 3D Tomography tradeoffs. Piletest recommends that decision makers should use 3DT and “Effective Area” in particular, only as a decision supporting tools, and not by itself for “go/no-go” decisions.
